Twelfth Night Celebration

Twelfth Night is a traditional celebration to mark the end of the Christmas Season. In 567 A.D., the Council of Tours established the Christmas Season as the time from Christmas, December 25 to the Feast of Epiphany, January 6; thus, the twelve days of Christmas.

During the traditional celebrations, the King’s cake, into which a bean and a pea have been baked, was cut and served to the guests. The man who received the piece containing the bean was crowned the king. The woman who received the piece of cake containing the pea was crowned the queen. After the coronation, they reigned over the rest of the evening’s festivities. These
festivities included games, dancing and singing.

Our first Twelfth Night celebration will be held on Saturday, January 6th from 7-9 p.m. at the museum. The evening will include traditional Twelfth Night fare (cake, pastries, fruit, nuts and wassail), along with organ music provided by member Don Golden, games, and of course the coronation of our own king and queen! Only 30 tickets will be sold for the event.

Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased at the November meeting, at the museum on Wednesday evenings, or by calling Elaine at 717-528-4869. We hope you and your friends will made plans to join us for an evening of food and fun to benefit our Society!
